Home-made Vinaigrette recipes require very little in the way of
ingredients or preparation. Don't forget, the Romans started with just
some olive oil and a dash of salt.
The quickest and easiest ones are made with 3 - 4 ingredients that are vigorously shaken in a small jar (like a small mason jar).
Really all you need to have at home is a bottle of olive oil and a bottle of vinegar.
The rest of the ingredients depend on your tastes.
Homemade vinaigrettes are
really easy to prepare and usually only require a few common
ingredients. They are fresher too since you are using fresh ingredients
and will be using it right away - Plus there are none of those chemical
With all the fresh ingredients this makes homemade vinaigrettes tastier and actually cheaper than store bought ones.
These simple recipes can be prepared in a few minutes time and will keep, if well sealed, in the refrigerator for anywhere from a few days up to a week.
Many of the new recipes for vinaigrette are actually just fresh herbs with oil - these are called "infused", because the herbs give the oil a new flavour. This type of vinaigrette is best made a day ahead for the "infusion" process to work.
You can also change up the flavour by using different vinegars, such as apple cider vinegar instead of the plain white vinegar OR you could vary the oil used, such as walnut oil or sesame oil instead of olive oil. Every change you make will create a new vinaigrette recipe and flavour.
Remember that many of these can also be used for Pasta Salads, Vegetable Salads and as marinades for fish, poultry or chops.
Try one of the following recipes and then adapt it to your tastes.
Honey Lemon Dressing
Walnut Oil Dressing
Sweet Seasame Vinaigrette
Orange Sesame Vinaigrette
Sweet Onion Vinaigrette
Red & White Wine Vinaigrettes
