A Neptune Salad is a combination of both crunchy and soft textures, with a semi-sweet dressing. Canned or any cooked crab meat can be used in this simple salad recipe. Even imitation crab meat will create a very tasty meal.
The optional corn kernels in this seafood salad recipe add to the sweetness and crunchiness.
Although this neptune recipe can be served as a salad on a bed of lettuce, it can also be used as a sandwich filling or as a canape.
1. Combine all ingredients in a medium size bowl
2. Add the dressing ingredients & mix well
3. serve chilled on a bed of lettuce.
You can make this Neptune Crab salad in a real hurry by buying a bag of precut coleslaw, 1 package imitation crab meat, 1 can kernel corn, and 1 bottle of premade cole slaw dressing.
All you need to add is the diced green onion, the diced white or red onion and diced celery. This is obviously NOT quite as good as home-made - but it will do in a pinch.
That the Romans worshipped Neptune as a God of the seas and everything in the seas. So, the definition of a Neptune Salad would be one that has "sea food" in it.
Apparently the first actual salad called Neptune was on the menu at a United States West Coast Hotel way back in the early 1900's.
Since then, many versions of this Neptune recipe have appeared all over the world, some using crab meat and others using various other seafood. The main ingredient remains as some type of seafood.
