How to wash Green Leaf Lettuce so that no-one becomes ill.

It is important to know how to wash green leaf lettuce to remove any residual contaminants or pesticides. We don't know how many people have handled it, coughed on it or sneezed on it - so we need to protect ourselves and family from any germs as well.

Just follow my easy guide below and your green leaf will be clean for use.

Step 1

  1. Pick a head of green leaf that is crisp and free of blemishes.

Step 2

  1. Remove the outer leaves from both sides of the green leaf lettuce and discard. We don't need to wash what we won't be eating
  2. Cut off the butt about 1" up and discard this also.

Step 3

  1. To wash - separate the leaves and place them into a bowl of cold water.
  2. Make sure they get submerged and swish them around gently.

Step 4

  1. Remove the green leaf leaves, one at a time and place them on a clean kitchen towel or a few layers of paper towels.

Step 5

  1. Pat the green leaf leaves dry with paper towels. Be sure to open the folded over ones to dry them properly.
  2. Your green leaf leaves are now ready to be used for salads.
