How to Slice English Cucumber for all your salad needs
Knowing how to slice English cucumber for salad preparation is a must. This variety is not entirely seedless but what little there is - is edible. Most times the peel is not removed - however - to be sure it is not bitter - do a taste test. If you find the peel too bitter for your liking - then peel the cucumber before slicing.
Choose an English cucumber that is dark green and firm, not soft or bendable.
Slice and then peel the cellophane wrapper off the English cucumber
Wash the English cucumber under cold running water to remove any pesticide residue and any other contaminants.
Dry the English cucumber with some clean paper towels.
Place the English cucumber on a clean cutting board and have a sharp serrated knife handy.
Start the cut by removing the end about 1 1/2 " up. The end piece of an English cucumber is usually very bitter.
Slice the English cucumber into thicknesses for your preference, by slicing across the cucumber.
If you need to slice a lot of English cucumber - a mandoline is a handy tool for this.
Slide the English cucumber down over the blade to create each slice.
You can usually adjust the blade depth to the slice thickness you prefer.
Continue in this fashion til you have sufficient English cucumber slices.
