How to shred Endive
for salads

How to shred endive is very popular in Europe, especially the Mediterranean area. These people use endive in all sorts of salads and other cooking.

My easy to follow picture tutorial below will walk you through the process of how to shred.

Step 1

  1. Choose an Endive to shred with the lightest coloured tips. (darker is more bitter)

Step 2

  1. Cut off the butt end of the endive, remove any damaged leaves and discard.

Step 3

  1. Separate the endive leaves, gently and place them in a bowl of cold water.
  2. Swish them around to be sure they are clean before beginning to shred

Step 4

  1. Place the washed endive leaves on a clean kitchen towel or paper towels.
  2. Dry them with more paper towels.

Step 5

  1. Stack a few layers of the endive leaves (about 4 - 5), one on top of the other.

Step 6

  1. Flip your little stack of endive over and begin to slice a very thin shred

Step 7

  1. Continue to shred all way along the stack

Step 8

  1. Fluff the shred pile with your fingers.

Step 9

  1. You will now have a nice little pile of shredded endive.
  2. If you need to shred more - repeat steps 5 - 8.

You now have learned how to shred an endive.
Shredded Endive can be added to any type of Green Salad to enhance the flavour.
