How to make Romaine Lettuce Cups
Great Appetizers or Quick Lunches

It's fun and easy learning how to make romaine lettuce cups. These are a great healthy alternative to bread or crackers. A huge variety of fillings can be used in these cups. Some great ideas are: sloppy Joe's, chili, taco mix, even just some sliced cold meat and shredded cheese.

Step 1

  1. Remove any blemished romaine leaves.

Step 2

  1. Trim off the tops and the butt end.

Step 3

  1. Separate the romaine leaves and place them in a large bowl of cold water or sink.

Step 4

  1. Swish the leaves around to remove any dirt - no one wants grit in their cups.
  2. Then remove them, and holding them upright let them drip a bit.

Step 5

  1. Place them in a colander to drain

Step 6

  1. Place the romaine leaves on clean toweling or paper towels and pat them dry.
  2. Wet lettuce cups make the fillings soggy, so be sure to get them as dry as possible.

Step 7

  1. Now your romaine lettuce leaves are ready as cups or boats.

Step 8

  1. Fill the center of the romaine leaf cups with a prepared mixture of your choice and then garnish it.
  2. You now have Romaine Cups. (My kids used to call these lettuce boats, when they were little)

Now you are ready to experiment with fillings.
