Light & Refreshing after a Large Meal
Citrus Salad Recipe

This refreshing Citrus Salad Recipe is perfect for serving after a large meal on the holidays or any other time. The combination of citrus fruits, with the sauce is a refreshing yet sweet recipe.

You can serve this simple citrus fruit salad recipe with some chocolate alongside since chocolate and oranges go well together. This easy salad recipe is quick to prepare and can be made ahead since it requires chilling to bring out the best of the flavours.

Recipe for Citrus Salad

Citrus Recipe Ingredients:

  • 4 blood oranges
  • 4 navel oranges or 3 grapefruits
  • 1/2 cup (125 ml) water
  • 2 tbsp (30 ml) honey
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) orange juice
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) sugar
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) Grand Mariner or Brandy

1. Using a potato peeler, peel 1 of each type of fruit, saving the peel for later. Peel the remaining fruits, segmenting them into a bowl. Discard the peel from these.

2. In a microwave dish, place the reserved peel in a small amount of water and microwave on high for 5 minutes. Remove, drain, let cool and slice the peel into very thin strips.

Citrus Sauce

1. In a saucepan combine the water, honey, and sugar over medium heat. Cook until slightly thickened (about 10 minutes). Add the peel strips and simmer for another 5 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.

2. Add orange juice and Grand Marinier or Brandy to the sauce, stir well to combine.

3. Pour the sauce over the citrus fruit segments, mix well and refrigerate.

Citrus Recipe Yield: Serves 4

Recipe Notes:

1. Various types of oranges can be used, as well as Mandarins, clementines, or grapefruits.(I like the red colour of the blood oranges to offset the orange colour of the navel oranges). Practically any citrus fruit will work.

2. This simple citrus fruit salad is best after being well chilled, so it is a perfect dessert recipe to be made a day ahead.
