Grandmas Potato Salad Recipe -
Simply The Best

Grandmas Potato Salad was always the best we had ever eaten and we looked forward to it all the time. It was a great simple salad recipe for those hot summer days and went well with nearly any BBQ'ed meat.

Even in winter it was a special potato salad recipe that was a real treat at Grandmas with fried sausages.

My Grandma was from Germany, so this recipe could actually be a German Potato Salad BUT my Grandmother insisted that from her region in Germany - most people ate their potato salad "warm" - therefore that one should be called Warm Potato Salad.

However, my Grandmas habit was to change things to suit herself - so I am sure that she "customized" the original recipe. After taking all these factors into consideration, and really wanting to share this excellent recipe - I decided to just call it "Grandmas Potato Salad".

Grandmas Recipe for Potato Salad

Grandmas Recipe Ingredients

  • 4 medium white potatoes - cooked & peeled
  • 4 hard boiled eggs - diced
  • 1 small onion - diced
  • 3 capfuls white vinegar
  • 1 tsp (5 ml) white sugar
  • 1 tbsp (15 ml) warm water
  • 4 tbsp (60 ml) real mayo
  • salt & pepper to taste
  • 1 raw egg

Grandmas Method

1. slice the potatoes thinly into a large bowl

2. add the diced eggs and other ingredients

3. stir gently to mix all ingredients well together

4. If it appears too dry - add a bit more water - carefully

5. taste test & add salt & pepper - mix again

The raw egg can be omitted if you plan to use this potato salad at an outdoor gathering (raw eggs can deteriorate quickly in the heat). Instead - increase the mayo & water a little bit more to achieve a nice creamy consistency.

Recipe Yield:  Grandmas Potato recipe serves as a side dish for 4 -6 people
